De La Rue

De La Rue is the world’s largest commercial banknote printer and passport manufacturer and is a trusted partner of governments, central banks and commercial organisations around the world.

The project I worked on was aimed at allowing governments to ensure tax had been collected on goods being transported and to track these goods as they were shipped around the world. The platform had the ability to generate thousands of unique codes every minute and distribute them to printing sites that print labels. These labels were then scanned and tracking information returned to the central service. Each label contained information that governments could configure relating to how much tax has been paid. Typical goods which had these labels were tobacco and alcohol however it was used in other industries too, for example the labels on Xbox games were printed using this system.

“One of the most complex parts of the solution was providing a user experience which presented all this information clearly and quickly with the ability to get an overview of performance and drill down into details where cases of suspected fraud may be a concern.”
